I Need a Coach -

Venus J. Brown,
Community Outreach Chair

Calm, Careful, Prayerful - those are the three words I began offering to anyone I encountered during March and April as this COVID-19 Pandemic engulfed us. When asked how I was doing I'd say, "Calm, careful and prayerful." It brought me a sense of peace. In a way it was a form of self-coaching and unsolicited instruction to those I interfaced with. Then as April progressed, I found myself closing the countless Zoom, Duo, Google, WhatsApp virtual meetings, gatherings, celebrations, game nights, cocktail parties and whatever other technology, email, and phone conversations with the salutation, "Be well." Who was I speaking too? I realize I was, am, speaking to myself and coaching the Universe. Be well.

If we practice wellness in whatever form, specifically on an individual level, it too spreads one to another. It too mutates, positively. As coaches we uphold the opportunity for others to be well. To be their best selves. As we embark upon May, I find that I need my own coach. No longer can the coach, coach themself, well at least not this one. Timely, that it is International Coaching Week where coaches abound offer pro-bono services; and this need is ever-present for such a time as this.

This International Coaching Week we have partnered with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. A 107-year-old non-profit professional woman's organization near and dear to my heart, who at its core is focused on Scholarship, Service and Sisterhood. We are an over 300,000 strong international member base of college-educated women, with chapters on most University campuses, operating in each state and internationally, Bahamas, Korea, Japan, Germany to name a few locations. I have been speaking with many members and we share the need to shift, re-prioritize, clarify, determine, decide and act. All ripe for a coaching engagement.

Both ICF Michigan and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority focuses on well-being or 'being well' to use my edict, and the Board is excited to provide coaching services to Michigan chapter members as our community service project this year.

We need your assistance! We need coaches.

It's easy - sign up to offer one hour of pro-bono coaching services.  We extended our sign-up date to Monday, May 18th!

I envision your gift of service, time and coaching expertise will be the prescription needed to aid someone to "Be well," and that too will spread swiftly.

Again, Click here to sign up and for any questions, please contact me at outreach@icfmichigan.org .

Yours in service,

Venus J. Brown

Community Outreach Chair
