2018 ICF Michigan
President

When
I first started coaching, I had the thought that it would all be telephonic
coaching. Why drive all over the place and lose all that time
traveling when my experience was that the coaching still was a great
experience for my client. That's what mattered to me - the experience
of my client.
Then,
it got a little lonely. Okay - a lot lonely. When I first started, I
didn't really have SO MANY clients that I had those quality
interactions. That rich engagement with others wasn't regular enough
for me. I was going to all the networking events for interactions and
I realized that wasn't really feeding me as much as I wanted. (A deep
dive into that was a quality coaching session and an entirely
different article to write!)
The
other thing happening was that those hiring me were also hungry for a
bit of human interaction. They, too, were solo-preneurs looking for a
bit more than fur-babies to keep them company during the day. They
wanted coaching - and physical proximity.
Now,
it seems I'm coaching in nearly any reasonable format that is
available in the world. I use video, phone and travel in-person with
clients who specifically favor that. It's fun to get creative and
find locations that aren't coffee shops and diners. In many
instances, I meet my client in person and later transition to phone
or video. What's your practice with clients - and how does it feed
your needs?
You
may have noticed that ICF Michigan has also incorporated the use of
Zoom for our web-based events. For those who need a phone line, that
is still available of course. Still, the power of a video connection
across the distance can be powerful and feed our human need for
interaction and contact. We are also bumping up the in-person
interactions and have been hoping you would join us at those events
near enough to you.
Forgive me, but I get a little excited. Whether it's on
one of our online education events or the networking and learning
opportunities going on:
I
see your face! I get to see you and
connect on a new level. ICF Michigan has membership across the state,
yes. We also have membership outside our state and even outside our
nation.
So many things have been happening in ICF Michigan. As I
had a chance to write in our newsletter, I wanted to say
Thank You.
Thank you for letting me see you. Thank you for letting me get to
know you. If that hasn't happened yet, I'd love to see you and get to
know you soon! I'd love to see your face.
