ICF Michigan Newsletter

January 2014

Dear fellow Coaches,

Welcome 2014!! I hope you all have had a wonderful start into the New Year!

Many of you know me in person, some of you may have seen me at an event and some of you might think "...who...?"

Please allow me to share just a little bit of my story with you. I was born in Germany and grew up in Taiwan. I returned to Germany to study business administration and later again to work in Corporate Germany. In the spring of 2010, I left Stuttgart to join my husband who was transferred to Detroit for his job in the Auto Industry. Of the many I had already gone through, this transition was one of the hardest. It was during my coach training that I learned much about myself and about the true value coaching.

Later that year I attended my first "PCAM Conference" and remember returning home to say:  "It's okay for us to stay, I have found my tribe. I now know where I belong."  I had felt like a comforting jacket was laid across my shoulders, as I was welcomed to this wonderful community of coaches. To this day I call this community "my warm jacket."

My favorite question for January is "What is your biggest goal and/or challenge for 2014?"
Of the many answers, one I heard often is "Balance."

In a newsletter I was asked  "What is your word for the year?
Just one?"

I chose three:

-    Belong

-    Fearless

-    Balance

Though very different, it is fascinating to see how connected these three words really are. How do these words show up in your personal life and in your coaching?

As I step into this leadership role of not only president, but also first non-American president of this chapter, I have given this role much
thought. What can I contribute? How can I inspire?  One thing that comes up for me over again is the word "Belong."  It is the welcoming spirit of this community that has fulfilled my need to belong.  It is what makes this chapter so special.  And where you belong, you engage. Where you belong, you share. Where you belong, you give.

Where you belong, you are fearless... It is this sense of belonging that I would like to give back and share.  As for balance, I, too seek a healthy balance between work and play, between ICF Michigan, my own coaching and "me."

What is your word for this year?

Please feel free to share with me or on the ICF Michigan Facebook page!

May this year bring you joy, good health, inspiration, growth, learning, great coaching and goals reached!  May ICF Michigan make you feel like you belong.

Stay warm,

Susanne
